I’ve just come back from a lovely little weekend break to Lisbon which was great, unfortunately the weather wasn’t too great.
Thankfully the city is full of wonderfully cheerful tiles (or to use the local lingo, loads of wonderfully cheerful azulejos) on the buildings which I clearly had to phoptograph. Here is just a small selection of the countless pictures I took. All I need now is a house I can cover with those tiles, sorry, azulejos.

We just wanted to say a quick THANK YOU to all you lovely people who came to our recent Pop-Up Shop at designjunction for London Design Festival. We had loads of fun so will do it all again very soon, in fact we’ll be back for seven weeks from the 14th of November at London’s fabulous Somerset House as part of their Christmas Arcade, but more about that another time. Anyway, here a few snaps so you can see what you missed out on.

The brand new LONDON DESIGN GUIDE 2014-2015 edition is now available.
Here is a picture of our dear friend the lovely Max Fraser, editor of the LONDON DESIGN GUIDE which is now in its third edition. Max popped by our recent Pop-Up Shop to say hello and as usual it’s a real treat to see him. By the way, Max is also the deputy director of the London Design Festival which just finished and I’m sure we can all agree on what a marvellous job he’s done this year. Below is a bit more info on the LONDON DESIGN GUIDE.
For fans of contemporary and vintage design and those looking to access it, LONDON DESIGN GUIDE gives a fresh insight into the city’s design retailers, galleries, museums and bookshops.
More than 150 new and established hotspots are compiled and reviewed, providing a tantalising viewpoint of the design capital of the world. Each entry is categorised by neighbourhood and accompanied by detailed maps to help navigate the best that the city has to offer.
In each of the ten neighbourhood chapters, we’ve honed in on streets that demonstrate a healthy mix of independent shops and services and asked selected business owners to comment on their evolution and attributes, with contributors including Stephen Webster, Ally Capellino, James Brown, Sam & Sam Clarke and Michael Anastassiades.
Furthermore, restaurant, bar and café recommendations are featured for each area, selected as much for their design credentials as for the quality of food and service.
The 208-page LONDON DESIGN GUIDE is a snapshot of the design scene today, a celebration of creativity and a practical tool for Londoners and tourists alike. There’s no better incentive for exploring the wealth of design in the capital.

When I saw pictures of this a couple of years ago it went straight onto my ‘must see’ list and considering it is in Duisburg, which is only half an hour away from my parents’ house in Germany, it clearly was only a matter of time.
Well, I was in Germany again last weekend and finally made it and it is AMAZING!! This walkable roller coaster is the work of artists Heike Mutter und Ulrich Genth and is built on a mount of rubble dug up by local coal mines (of which there were plenty).
Thankfully it was a miserable day so no-one was around and we had it almost all to ourselves!!

I don’t think I can ever visit Germany without eating a Currywurst at least twice!! And when it’s organic and served out of a beautiful refurbished Airstream caravan it’s got to be a winner.
I saw this in Cologne during their annual furniture fair and to my surprise Benbergs Benys is run by an old friend. I think if I ever need a career change I might possibly consider getting myself a mobile Currywurst Stall. The only problem with that is that I’d probably eat all the stock.

I was hugely privileged to be asked by the British Council to be part of their Design Explore Program which they ran in Marrakesh just a few weeks ago. Design Explore was a two week course which aims to offer 10 young, aspiring Moroccan designers a chance to develop their skills and knowledge of contemporary product design and to explore ideas of cultural identity.
And what a great bunch of designers they were, truly amazing. Watch this space for more info on them and the results.
It was also my first time in Marrakesh and I absolutely LOVE the city and the people. Here are a few pictures I took.

When I was in Poland recently I was so happy to see some K67 Kiosks. I was introduced to them a few years ago on a trip to Slovenia.
The K67 Kiosk was designed in 1966 by the Slovenian architect and designer Saša J. Mächtig.
Its system is based on polyfibre reinforced modules which can be used as single units or combined to larger units.
