I’ve just come back from a lovely little weekend break to Lisbon which was great, unfortunately the weather wasn’t too great.
Thankfully the city is full of wonderfully cheerful tiles (or to use the local lingo, loads of wonderfully cheerful azulejos) on the buildings which I clearly had to phoptograph. Here is just a small selection of the countless pictures I took. All I need now is a house I can cover with those tiles, sorry, azulejos.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Torino last year for a small but impressive design fair called Operae but I have to admit the main reason I wanted to go was to visit the old Lingotto Fiat factory.
Opened in 1923 it was the biggest car factory at the time but what’s most special about it is the rooftop test track. The factory itself closed in 1982 and now houses a shopping centre, a concert hall, a conference centre, a gallery and and a hotel but the track is still right there on top of the building on the 5th floor.
Below are a few more pictures of the track and the rather stunning spiral driveway which connects all the floors.

I’m off to Berlin on Thursday to check out DMY, the International Design Festival which starts tomorrow. The main show is at Tempelhof Airport, Berlin’s historic airport which is now closed but still has some pretty impressive architecture.
Talking of impressive architecture, last time I was in Berlin I made sure I visited the Olympic Stadium which was originally built for the 1936 Olympics but had a make-over for the last Football World Cup.
